Students of the Software Engineering bachelor's program of the Higher IT School (HITs) have completed the first academic year of the program’s existence. 42 bachelor's students, 12 of whom are international students, created their own computer games during the final unit, and they passed their programming exam in this format.

The TSU team for computer security SiBears became the absolute winner of the international hacking competition iCTF 2018, which is held by the University of California Santa Barbara. The team consists of students, employees, and graduates of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (IAMCS).

Denis Sharapov, a student of the Scientific Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science Experts named the best web developer among Russian students of the First National Inter-university Championship "Young Professionals" (WorldSkills Russia).

The theatricalized procession of TSU students and teachers along Lenin Avenue, the central street of Tomsk, became the largest-scale event in TSU’s 140th anniversary celebration. The jury of representatives of all faculties chose the best column, and the Cup of the Imperial University went to the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science.
